Media Advisory: Municipal Government and Housing to meet Tuesday
|
STATE HOUSE — The House Committee on Municipal Government and Housing will meet tomorrow to hear bills relating to pedestrian safety, the reuse of residential buildings and firefighter and police officer illness and injury benefits eligibility.
The committee is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Tuesday, March 24, at the rise of the House, sometime after 4:30 p.m. in Room 101 on the first floor of the State House. The committee is scheduled to hear several bills, including:

2026-H 8012 — This legislation introduced by Rep. Nathan W. Biah Sr. (D-Dist. 3, Providence) would create the RI Pedestrian Safety Act, allowing cities and towns to use automated safety monitoring which a civil fine of $50 for violations.

2026-H 7148 — This legislation by Rep. David J. Place (R-Dist. 47, Burrillville. Glocester) would expand the Rhode Island Rehabilitation and Fire Code to include existing one-, two- and three-bedroom homes, removing their current exclusion and promoting the continued use and reuse of existing residential buildings.

2026-H 7149 — This legislation introduced by Rep. Earl A. Read III (D-Dist. 26, Coventry, West Warwick, Warwick) would require that before any firefighter or police officer is eligible to receive benefits for illness or injury sustained off duty, they prove they had reasonable grounds to believe that an emergency existed that required immediate need of their assistance.
