Media Advisory: Senate AI and Emerging Technologies Committee to hear bills from Senate health care package Tuesday

STATE HOUSE — The Senate Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies Committee will meet tomorrow to hear bills related to the use of AI in health care, including bills from the Senate’s 17-bill package of health care legislation.
The committee is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Tuesday, March 24, at 2:30 p.m. in Room 313 on the third floor of the State House. The committee is scheduled to hear several bills, including two from the Senate’s health care package:

2026-S 2195 — This legislation introduced by Sen. Lori Urso (D-Dist. 8, Pawtucket) would mandate additional safety features for AI companion technology that include addressing suicidal ideation, potential physical harm or financial harm to others expressed by a user. It also requires notification the AI companion does not have human emotions.

2026-S 2197 — This legislation also introduced by Senator Urso would establish regulations regarding the use of artificial intelligence in mental health care treatments.
The committee is also scheduled to hear the following bill:

2026-S 2010 — This legislation introduced by Sen. Linda L. Ujifusa (D-Dist. 11, Portsmouth, Bristol) would promote transparency and accountability in the use of artificial intelligence by health insurers to manage coverage and claims.
The Senate Committee on Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies considers legislation and matters relating to emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, and their societal, ethical and policy implications.
