Media Advisory: Municipal Government and Housing to meet Tuesday
|
STATE HOUSE — The House Committee on Municipal Government and Housing will meet tomorrow to hear bills relating to building inspectors, disclosure of municipal lawsuits and accessibility in new residential construction.
The committee is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Tuesday, March 17, at the rise of the House, sometime after 4:30 p.m. in the House Lounge on the second floor of the State House. The committee is scheduled to hear several bills, including:

2026-H 8020 — This legislation introduced by Rep. Stephen M. Casey (D-Dist. 50, Woonsocket), who also chairs the committee, would allow for building inspectors to conduct “virtual inspections” or utilize photographic evidence.

2026-H 8027 — This legislation by Rep. Jennifer A. Stewart (D-Dist. 59, Pawtucket) would require a municipality to disclose on its official website the specific issues, details and costs of any legal action of which the town or city is a named defendant within 60 days after the close of the fiscal year.

2026-H 7564 — This legislation introduced by Rep. Tina L. Spears (D-Dist. 36, Charlestown, New Shoreham, South Kingstown, Westerly) would create the Home-Fit Dwelling Units Act to incorporate design features that provide safe and convenient use, regardless of age or physical ability, in all new construction of covered dwelling units.
Written testimony must be submitted to HouseMunicipalGovernmentandHousing@rilegislature.gov. Testimony must include your name, the bill number, and your viewpoint, whether for, against, or neither. Sign-up sheets for in-person testimony will be available in the hearing room.
