Media Advisory: Senate Education Committee to hear school safety bills
|
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Education Committee will hold hearings tomorrow on several bills concerning safety in schools and in school sports.
The committee meets Wednesday, March 11, at 4 p.m. in Room 313 on the third floor of the State House. Among the bills scheduled for hearings are:

2026-S 2782 — Sponsored by Sen. Walter S. Felag Jr. (D-Dist. 10, Warren, Bristol, Tiverton), would update existing law to require school districts to organize concussion oversight teams, develop removal-from-play, return-to-play and return-to-learn protocols, and develop a concussion brochure.

2026-S 2348 — This bill sponsored by Sen. Victoria Gu (D-Dist. 38, Westerly, Charlestown, South Kingstown) would require high school and middle school student identification cards to include contact numbers for suicide and substance use disorder prevention hotlines.

2026-S 2350 — Sponsored by Sen. Louis P. DiPalma (D-Dist. 11, Middletown, Little Compton, Newport, Tiverton) this bill would require the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education and the Department of Health to adopt regulations for the administration of seizure medications for children with epilepsy/seizure disorder.
The meeting will be televised by Capitol Television on Cox channels 15 and 61 for high definition; i3Broadband (Formerly Full Channel) channel 15; and Verizon channel 34. Any written testimony must be emailed to SLegislation@rilegislature.gov prior to 3 p.m. Wednesday for the bills being heard that day in order for it to be provided to the members of the committee at the hearing and to be included in the meeting records. Testimony will become a public record.
