Media Advisory: House Environment Committee to hear bills governing building energy standards Wednesday
|
STATE HOUSE — The House Environment and Natural Resources Committee will meet Wednesday to hear bills related to the energy use and greenhouse gas emissions of large buildings, multi-unit residential dwellings and new state construction.
The committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday, March. 11, at 4 p.m. in the House Lounge on the second floor of the State House. The committee is scheduled to hear several bills, including:

2026-H 7183 — This legislation introduced by Rep. Rebecca Kislak (D-Dist. 4, Providence) would establish a program for the energy and water benchmarking of large buildings in Rhode Island and a standard for their energy performance.

2026-H 7623 — This legislation introduced by Rep. Arthur Handy (D-Dist. 18, Cranston) would require that the division of planning create a checklist of environmental and energy issues for state construction projects in excess of $10 million.

2026-H 8132 — This legislation introduced by Rep. Terri Cortvriend (D-Dist. 72, Portsmouth, Middletown) would create a multi-unit residential decarbonization initiative program to provide funding for feasibility studies to convert large, multi-family residential units to non-emitting renewable geothermal energy.
