|
STATE HOUSE — The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of the Pawtuxet Valley has named Sen. Mark McKenney (D-Dist. 30, Warwick) grand marshal for its 65th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which takes place Sunday, March 15, on Washington and Main streets in West Warwick.
The organization held a banquet at Club Jogues in Coventry on Saturday to officially welcome the senator to the top of a long list of past parade leaders.
“I am truly honored to be chosen and to have this opportunity to celebrate my Irish heritage with my family and Senate colleagues,” said Senator McKenney at the 131st annual banquet.
The parade will kick off at 1 p.m. from the Iannotti Funeral Home, 415 Washington St., on the Coventry/West Warwick town line, and will end at West Warwick Town Hall. The Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick post-parade party will be held at the Elks Lodge, 60 Clyde St., West Warwick, with plenty of corned beef sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers and fries to go around. Trophies will be awarded for parade categories and donations will be accepted at the door.
