2/11/2026 House passes Rep. Finkelman’s Jamestown senior tax relief bill
STATE HOUSE – The House of Representatives approved legislation (2026-H 7151) sponsored by Rep. Alex S. Finkelman that would provide tax relief to Jamestown’s seniors.

“Seniors are struggling with rising costs across the board and they need help.  The Jamestown Town Council recognized this area of need for our seniors, and I am proud to sponsor this legislation for them.  Granting our senior residents some tax relief is the right thing to do, and I look forward to seeing this important bill pass the entire General Assembly,” said Representative Finkelman (D-Dist. 74, Jamestown, Middletown).

The legislation allows Jamestown to offer senior taxpayers with an income of not less than 220% and not more than 240% of the federal poverty guideline an exemption of 10% of the assessment cap or the assessed valuation, whichever is less.

The bill has been referred to the Senate Housing and Municipal Government Committee for consideration.
