2/9/2026 Media Advisory: Municipal Government and Housing to meet Wednesday
STATE HOUSE — The House Committee on Municipal Government and Housing will meet Tuesday to hear bills relating to property taxes, homeless shelters and the care of abandoned or neglected animals.

The committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday, Feb. 11, at the rise of the House, sometime after 4:30 p.m. in Room 135 on the first floor of the State House. The committee is scheduled to hear several bills, including:
  • 2026-H 7567 — This legislation introduced by Rep. Megan L. Cotter (D-Dist. 39, Exeter, Richmond, Hopkinton) would establish a property tax deferral program for senior citizens, disabled persons or veterans.
  • 2026-H 7225 — This legislation introduced by Rep. John J. Lombardi (D-Dist. 8, Providence) would establish rules and procedures for licensing emergency shelters for homeless persons, including setting minimum standards and prohibiting the charging of fees to the residents.
  • 2026-H 7562 — This legislation introduced by Rep. Matthew S. Dawson (D-Dist. 65, East Providence) would allow animal control officers in the cities and towns to lawfully take charge of and provide adequate care to any animal found abandoned or neglected or hazardously accumulated and includes them as agents authorized to enforce the provisions of this law.
Written testimony must be submitted to HouseMunicipalGovernmentandHousing@rilegislature.gov. Testimony must include your name, the bill number, and your viewpoint, whether for, against, or neither. Sign-up sheets for in-person testimony will be available in the hearing room.
