Sen. Mack to join state lawmakers for day of solidarity at Minnesota State Capitol
|
STATE HOUSE — On Thursday, Jan. 29, Sen. Tiara Mack (D-Dist. 6, Providence) will join more than 50 legislators from 15 states to gather in person at the Minnesota State Capitol for a day of solidarity with their Minnesota colleagues. Along with Senator Mack, Sen. Meghan E. Kallman (D-Dist. 15, Pawtucket, Providence) and Rep. Michelle McGaw (D-Dist. 71, Portsmouth, Tiverton, Little Compton) will be in Minnesota, while Sen. Dawn Euer (D-Dist. 13, Newport, Jamestown) and Reps. Rebecca Kislak (D-Dist. 4, Providence), Teresa A. Tanzi (D-Dist. 34, South Kingstown, Narragansett), June S. Speakman (D-Dist. 68, Warren, Bristol) and Terri Cortvriend (D-Dist. 72, Portsmouth, Middletown) will be joining the event virtually.
“What is transpiring in Minnesota is not only unacceptable, but also fundamentally un-American, as well. Masked men gunning down American citizens in the streets is the antithesis of what our country stands for and there should be zero tolerance for such unlawful and inhumane actions. My voice will be one of many calling for the end of ICE’s terrible campaign of fear, intimidation and violence, and we will not be quiet until this criminal behavior ends,” said Senator Mack.
This day of solidarity, organized by state legislators in partnership with State Futures, will confront increasing federal authoritarian tactics and the escalation of force against Minnesota residents in the wake of the killings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by federal agents. Minnesota is a testing ground for the federal regime, as part of a national project to suppress the power of the people. State legislators are standing together in solidarity to reject these tactics and demand accountability.
In addition, a national virtual press call that day will include more than 100 state legislators from 24 states.
The “Stand with Minnesota Day of Solidarity” includes:
-
Minnesota Senate Select Subcommittee on Federal Impacts Hearing on ICE activity in Minnesota;
-
In-person press conference at the Minnesota Capitol;
-
A national virtual press call bringing together more than 100 state lawmakers from 24 states across the country;
-
A new video with 36 lawmakers from 11 states expressing solidarity with Minnesota and calling for accountability.
-
Site visits for lawmakers to impacted neighborhoods, schools and businesses, where they will hold conversations with communities affected by constant ICE occupation.
These actions underscore a growing cross-state legislative coalition working in solidarity to assert state authority, protect communities, and respond with clarity and purpose as federal actions continue to escalate.
