Media Advisory: State representatives and Working Families Power to launch ‘Fair Share for Rhode Island’ legislative agenda
|
STATE HOUSE — Working Families Power and a group of over 25 lawmakers from across Rhode Island will announce their “Fair Share for Rhode Island” package, a list of top priorities for the 2026 legislative session, tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 22, at 2:30 p.m. in the State Library on the second floor of the State House.
The “Fair Share for Rhode Island” package is a set of bills requiring the highest earners in the state to pay a comparable share of their income in taxes as other filers, to help protect the state against Trump cuts and fund critical services like public education, healthcare and childcare and public transportation. The package will raise more than $650 million annually and only affect top earners and people with extreme wealth.
Speakers at the event will include Sens. Melissa Murray (D-Dist. 24, Woonsocket, North Smithfield), Meghan E. Kallman (D-Dist. 15, Pawtucket, Providence) and Tiara T. Mack (D-Dist. 6, Providence) and Reps. Teresa A. Tanzi (D-Dist. 34, South Kingstown, Narragansett), Karen Alzate (D-Dist. 60, Pawtucket, Central Falls) and Brandon Potter (D-Dist. 16, Cranston), with many others present in support.
The event will be live streamed by Capitol Television at capitoltvri.cablecast.tv.
