MEDIA ADVISORY: Medical billing, veterinary telemedicine among items on House Corporations Committee agenda
|
STATE HOUSE — The House Committee on Corporations will meet today to hear testimony on legislation, including bills related to medical billing and veterinary telemedicine.
The committee will meet today, Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the rise of the House (about 4:30 p.m.) in the House Lounge on the second floor of the State House.
The committee will hear the following bills:

2026-H 7002 —This bill, introduced by Rep. Arthur J. Corvese (D-Dist. 55, North Providence), would prohibit healthcare providers and health plans from denying the payment of a medical bill, solely because the bill may have arisen from a third-party claim.

2026-H 7020— This bill, introduced by Rep. Jon D. Brien (I-Woonsocket, North Smithfield), would authorize veterinarians to establish a client-patient relationship through electronic means, subject to limitations and requirements.

2026-H 7021 — This bill, introduced by Rep. Samuel A. Azzinaro (D-Dist. 37, Westerly), would require commercial property owners to install vehicle barriers at their retail establishments when new construction or renovations are being done and permit insurers to consider the installation to provide a discount on the owner’s insurance policy.

2026-H 7064—This bill, introduced by Rep. Mary Ann Shallcross Smith (D-Dist. 46, Lincoln, Pawtucket), would change the direct client contact hour requirements for applicants for licensure of marriage and family therapist associate and applicants for licensure of marriage and family therapist.

2026-H 7065 — This bill, introduced by Rep. Ramon A. Perez (D-Dist. 13, Providence, Johnston), would require a 50% reduction in the amount of added sugars in all liquid beverages sold in Rhode Island on and after Jan. 1, 2030.

2026-H 7109 — This bill, introduced by Rep. John J. Lombardi (D-Dist. 8, Providence), would prohibit the practice of patient brokering and provide monetary penalties and enforcement by the office of the attorney general.
