Media Advisory: Municipal Government and Housing to meet today to hear bills related to veterans’ property tax exemptions

STATE HOUSE — The House Committee on Municipal Government and Housing will meet today to hear bills relating to property tax exemptions for veterans along with other bills related to local issues.
The committee is scheduled to meet today, Tuesday, Jan. 20, at the rise of the House, sometime after 4:30 p.m. in Room 35 on the basement level of the State House. The committee is scheduled to hear several bills, including:

2026-H 7084 —This legislation introduced by Rep. Alex S. Finkelman (D-Dist. 74, Jamestown, Middletown) would authorize municipalities to adopt a veterans’ property tax exemption for any veterans who were honorably discharged, or discharged under conditions other than dishonorable, regardless of dates or periods of service.

2026-H 7152 —This legislation introduced by Rep. Brandon T. Voas (D-Dist. 57, Cumberland, Central Falls) would increase the minimum veterans’ exemption for municipal taxes from $1,000 to $6,000.
Written testimony must be submitted to HouseMunicipalGovernmentandHousing@rilegislature.gov. Testimony must include your name, the bill number, and your viewpoint, whether for, against, or neither. Sign-up sheets for in-person testimony will be available in the hearing room.
