1/13/2026 Media Advisory: House Environment Committee to hear presentation Thursday
STATE HOUSE — The House Environment and Natural Resources Committee will meet Thursday to hear a presentation from Save The Bay and to amend a commission studying flooding on the Pawtuxet River.

The committee is scheduled to meet on Thursday, Jan. 15, at the rise of the House, sometime after 4:30 p.m. in Room 35 on the basement level of the State House to hear a presentation on the status of Rhode Island’s environment and updates on federal changes that affect it from Topher Hamblett, executive director of Save The Bay.

The committee will also hear a resolution (2026-H 7028) sponsored by Rep. Earl A. Read III (D-Dist. 26. Coventry, West Warwick, Warwick) to amend and increase the membership of the Special House Commission to Study and Provide Findings and Potential Solutions to Address the Flooding of the Pawtuxet River from 11 to 13 by replacing the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers New England District Engineer Commander with the West Warwick Fire Department Chief, or designee; by replacing the Region 1 FEMA Acting Regional Administrator with the Assistant Town Manager of Coventry, or designee; by adding an additional business owner in a potential flood zone area, to be appointed by the Speaker of House; and by adding the Rhode Island Energy Executive Engineer, or designee.

Written testimony must be submitted at HouseEnvironmentandNaturalResources@rilegislature.gov. Testimony must include your name, the bill number and your viewpoint, whether for, against or neither. Sign-up sheets for in-person testimony will be available in the hearing room.
