Chairman Azzinaro unveils plaque at State House honoring POWs
|
STATE HOUSE – House Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman Samuel A. Azzinaro unveiled a plaque at the State House today to honor Prisoners of War (POWs). The plaque is located above the POW Chair, located on the first floor of the State House.
“I thank the American Ex-Prisoners of War Legacy Project for this beautiful plaque that honors our state’s POWs. It will serve as a fitting reminder to the sacrifices made by POWs and all our veterans who have served with honor, dedication and courage. The freedoms we cherish are not free and this plaque underscores the real costs of ensuring our American way of life,” said Chairman Azzinaro (D-Dist. 37, Westerly).
House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi (D-Dist. 23, Warwick) joined Chairman Azzinaro at a brief ceremony unveiling the plaque.
The plaque was donated to Rhode Island by the American Ex-Prisoners of War Legacy Project, whose goal is to place a commemorative plaque in each of the 50 State Houses across the country to increase public awareness of the service these outstanding men and women have given to our grateful nation.
