12/15/2025 MEDIA ADVISORY: Pawtuxet River Commission to hear presentations from Army Corps of Engineers, Providence Water Wednesday
STATE HOUSE — A special House commission to study flooding on the Pawtuxet River will meet Wednesday to hear presentations from Providence Water and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.

The panel, which is tasked with studying and providing findings and potential solutions to address the flooding of the Pawtuxet River, will meet on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 3:30 p.m. in Room 135 on the first floor of the State House.

Gregg Giasson, executive engineer from Providence Water, and Chris Hatfield, chief of the Plan Formulation Branch of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, are both expected to give presentations.

A resolution (2025-H 5847A) creating the commission was introduced earlier this year by Rep. Earl A. Read III (D-Dist. 26, Coventry, West Warwick, Warwick) whose district includes a portion of the river that has a tendency to flood. Representative Read is also chairman of the commission.

The next meeting of the commission will take place on Jan. 26.
