11/12/2025 Speaker Shekarchi, President Lawson and Rhode Island leaders honor the service and sacrifice of our veterans
STATE HOUSE – Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi (D-Dist. 23, Warwick), Senate President Valarie J. Lawson (D-Dist. 14, East Providence), House Veterans’ Affairs Committee Chairman Samuel A. Azzinaro (D-Dist. 37, Westerly), Senate Special Legislation & Veterans' Affairs Committee Chairman Walter S. Felag Jr. (D-Dist. 10, Warren, Bristol, Tiverton), Governor Dan McKee and Veterans Services Director Kasim Yarn hosted federal, state, and local leaders at the RI Veterans Home to honor the service and selfless sacrifice of our Veterans.

Speaker Shekarchi, President Lawson and Chairmen Azzinaro and Felag delivered remarks at the event.

Brooke Perron, a Mount Saint Charles Academy student and winner of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Patriot's Pen essay delivered the keynote remarks under the theme of "My Voice, America's Democracy."
               
"This Veterans Day, we renew our commitment to honor those who have worn our nation’s uniform," said Kasim Yarn, Director of Rhode Island's Office of Veterans Services. "May every Rhode Islander take a moment—not just today, but every day—to thank our service members for their courage, sacrifice, and devotion to freedom. We will continue to ensure America’s heroes and their families are never left behind, connecting them to the care, benefits, and the support they have earned."
