STATE HOUSE – House Finance Committee Chairman Marvin L. Abney and Senate Housing and Municipal Government Committee Chairman Jacob E. Bissaillon were recognized with the Rhode Island Coalition for Children and Families’ Legislative Service Award.  The awards were presented at the 10th Anniversary Policy and Awards Luncheon held at the Providence Marriott Downtown on Nov. 3.

“The Coalition for Children and Families truly do God’s work in our state, and I thank them for the continuous efforts to ensure that our youth and families who are struggling get the proper support that they need.  I’m humbled to be recognized by such a dedicated organization, and I look forward to continuing to support its selfless mission,” said Chairman Abney (D-Dist. 73, Newport, Middletown).

“This award truly belongs to the advocates and providers who make up the Rhode Island Coalition for Children and Families and who champion the creation of programs like Children’s Mobile Response and Stabilization Services,” said Chairman Bissaillon (D-Dist. 1, Providence). “The success of Children’s MRSS shows what’s possible when state government listens to advocates and works hand in hand with community providers to help those in need. I am grateful for this recognition, but even more thankful for the work being done every day by RICCF and its members to support our state’s most vulnerable children — whether in homes, schools, or through their advocacy for reform at the State House.”

Chairmen Abney and Bissaillon were honored due to their leadership and stewardship of resources that sustain child and family service programs, particularly in ensuring equitable opportunities for Rhode Island’s youth.  Their dedication to sound fiscal policy and investments in community well-being was cited by the coalition.

Kimberly R. Lyle of the Dorchester Bay Economic Development Corporation was the guest speaker at the event.  Other honorees included United States Senator Jack Reed; David Cicilline, President and CEO of the RI Foundation; Amy Romero of the Lawyers Committee for RI; and Craig Gordon, President and CEO of Communities for People.
