10/31/2025 MADD RI recognizes Whip Tikoian as Legislator of the Year
STATE HOUSE – MADD Rhode Island today honored Senate Majority Whip David P. Tikoian as its Legislator of the Year in recognition of his ongoing efforts to keep Rhode Island’s roadways safe from impaired drivers.

“I am deeply humbled to receive this award, and I am incredibly honored to be recognized alongside so many heroes who work tirelessly to make our roads safer. Thank you, MADD Rhode Island, for your advocacy and leadership, which makes a powerful difference in our state. To the 2025 award honorees, thank you for your courage, compassion, and conviction. Your dedication saves lives, brings comfort to families, and strengthens communities across our state. Impaired driving remains one of the most preventable causes of tragedy on our roads. Together, lawmakers, law enforcement, advocates, and citizens alike must remain steadfast in our commitment to ending it once and for all,” said Whip Tikoian (D-Dist. 22, Smithfield, North Providence, Lincoln).

Whip Tikoian has sponsored and supported several related pieces of legislation, including a 2023 law requiring that driver’s education courses include information regarding the dangers of driving under the influence of marijuana and a 2024 law extending the “lookback” period for repeat offenses of driving under the influence.
