STATE HOUSE – House Finance Committee Chairman Marvin L. Abney and Senate Finance Committee Chairman Louis P. DiPalma were honored as Preservation Champions by the Preservation Society of Newport County on Oct. 23 at the Rosecliff Mansion in Newport.

Chairmen Abney and DiPalma were recognized due to their outstanding leadership and support for historic preservation and cultural tourism.  Each has been instrumental in advancing the society’s mission to protect, preserve and present three centuries of American architecture and landscapes within one the nation’s most historically significant cities, Newport.

“It’s humbling to be recognized by the Preservation Society because their efforts and work truly keep Newport one of the most beautiful cities in the world.  I look forward to working with them to ensure that future generations can continue to marvel at Newport’s rich history and culture,” said Chairman Abney (D-Dist. 73, Newport, Middletown).

“I am honored to receive this award from such a dedicated organization, and I thank them for their continued initiative to preserve and support Newport’s architectural and cultural beauty,” said Chairman DiPalma (D-Dist. 12, Middletown, Little Compton, Newport, Tiverton).
