Senate approves Leader Ciccone’s bill that expands RI virtual gaming to other jurisdictions
|
STATE HOUSE – The Senate today approved legislation introduced by Majority Leader Frank A. Ciccone III that would bring in more revenue to Rhode Island by expanding online virtual gaming to other states and countries.
“Rhode Island has already positioned itself as a national leader in online virtual gaming and this bill would further strengthen our state’s role as an industry leader. If passed, this legislation will bring more revenue through job creation and create more opportunities for our state, all at minimal costs to the gaming facilities and the taxpayers since the operations are already up and running in Rhode Island. This bill is as simple as broadcasting our existing online virtual games to other states and countries. It positions our state facilities well to take advantage of future opportunities in this area, to the benefit of Rhode Island taxpayers,” said Leader Ciccone (D-Dist. 7, Providence, Johnston).
The legislation (2025-S 1017A) would allow the state’s two gaming facilities to livestream virtual games to one or more external jurisdictions for the purpose of facilitating external game play activities in other states where virtual gaming is permitted.
The bill now heads to the House for consideration, where Rep. Scott A. Slater (D-Dist. 10, Providence) has introduced the legislation (2025-H 6388).
