Rhode Island Senate Open golf tournament raises $35,000 for Hasbro Children’s Hospital
|
STATE HOUSE, Providence – The 4th Annual Rhode Island Senate Open charity golf tournament raised $35,000 for Hasbro Children’s Hospital. Charles Ruggerio, son of the late President of the Senate Dominick J. Ruggerio, presented the proceeds to the hospital earlier this week.
Charles Ruggerio said, “My dad didn’t golf, but he took tremendous joy in organizing the Rhode Island Senate Open each year. He loved bringing people together for an enjoyable day of leisure while raising tens of thousands of dollars for a great cause. He took great pride in the fact that the four tournaments he ran raised close to $150,000 for the hospital. Presenting those proceeds each year felt better to him than hitting a hole in one ever could. Those contributions are making a lasting difference, and are a great part of his legacy.”
In 2023, when presenting the proceeds from the 2022 tournament, the late Senate President observed, “I can’t tell you how often I hear stories about the warm and compassionate care provided by the team here at Hasbro, and the tremendous positive impact their understanding has had for families dealing with some very difficult circumstances. The team goes above and beyond to put children and their families at ease, while delivering some of the most advanced medical care in the nation. I’m sure this is why people have responded with such incredible generosity to our annual golf tournament. We couldn’t have chosen a more worthy cause.”
Plans are underway to continue the tradition of an annual Rhode Island Senate Charity Golf Tournament, with this year’s event scheduled for October 20 at Kirkbrae Country Club in Lincoln.
