MEDIA ADVISORY: Senate Finance Committee to meet tomorrow to consider several bills
|
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Finance Committee will be meeting tomorrow, Tuesday, June 10 at the RISE of the Senate (approximately 6 p.m.) in Room 211 of the State House to consider several pieces of legislation.
The committee is chaired by Sen. Louis P. DiPalma (D-Dist. 12, Middletown, Little Compton, Newport, Tiverton).
The following bills will be considered:

2025-S 0182, sponsored by Sen. Hanna M. Gallo (D-Dist. 27, Cranston, West Warwick), allows a resident taxpayer to elect to have state taxes withheld from distributions from a mutual fund individual retirement account.

2025-S 0444, sponsored by Chairman DiPalma, allows members of the retirement system who served in the National Guard, or reserves, and qualify as veterans, to purchase retirement service credits based on their years of service in the National Guard or reserves.

2025-S 0675, sponsored by Sen. Jonathon Acosta (D-Dist. 16, Central Falls, Pawtucket), defines Class 5 property to include the commercial portion of mixed-use properties and fixes the tax rate for Class 3 property at $38.33 per $1,000.

2025-H 5369, sponsored by Rep. Edith H. Ajello (D-Dist. 1, Providence), exempts from property taxation, the real and tangible personal property of the Providence Preservation Society.

2025-H 5512, sponsored by Rep. Jose F. Batista (D-Dist. 12, Providence), exempts from taxation the real and tangible personal property of PROJECT Weber/RENEW, a Rhode Island domestic nonprofit corporation.

2025-H 6129, sponsored by Rep. Thomas E. Noret (D-Dist. 25, Coventry, West Warwick), authorizes the Town of West Warwick to issue not more than $71 million bonds and notes to finance the acquisition, construction, improvement, renovation, furnishing and equipping of schools and school facilities.
The committee will also hear testimony on legislation (2025-S 0664) sponsored by Sen. Mark McKenney (D-Dist. 30, Warwick) that authorizes the appropriation of the sum of $1 million for the continued purchase, cancellation and forgiveness of medical debt consistent with section 35-4-21.1 of the General Laws.
