6/4/2025 Media Advisory: Senate AI and Emerging Technologies Committee to vote on bills tomorrow
STATE HOUSE — The Senate Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies Committee will meet tomorrow for votes on bills related to identity theft, the use of AI to manage insurance coverage and claims and a commission to study cryptocurrency and blockchain technologies.

The committee is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Thursday, June 5, at 3:30 p.m. in Room 212 on second floor of the State House to vote on several bills, including:
  • 2025-S 1037 — This bill introduced by Sen. Victoria Gu (D-Dist. 38, Westerly, Charlestown, South Kingstown), who also chairs this committee, would amend the Identity Theft Protection Act to modernize definitions. This act also raises the penalty provisions for violations.
  • 2025-S 0013 — Sponsored by Sen. Linda L. Ujifusa (D-Dist. 11, Portsmouth, Bristol), this bill promotes transparency and accountability in the use of artificial intelligence by health insurers to manage coverage and claims.
  • 2025-S 0373 — Sponsored by Sen. Louis P. DiPalma (D-Dist. 12, Middletown, Little Compton, Newport, Tiverton) DiPalma, this bill would create a five-member commission to recommend legislative proposals for blockchain and cryptocurrency that would submit an interim progress report by Jan. 5, 2026 and a final report by Jan. 5, 2027.
The Senate Committee on Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies considers legislation and matters relating to emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, and their societal, ethical and policy implications.

The meeting will be televised live by Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox channel 61, on i3Broadband channel 15 and on Verizon channel 34. Senate committee hearings may also air on Channel 75 for Cox subscribers It will be live streamed at capitoltvri.cablecast.tv.
