Senate approves Leader Ciccone’s warehouse employee protection bill
|
STATE HOUSE – The Senate today approved legislation sponsored by Majority Leader Frank A. Ciccone III that requires employers to provide each employee of a warehouse distribution center with written descriptions of quotas and responsibilities.
“Employees need to know what exactly their job is and they in no way should be penalized if their job responsibilities have not been clearly communicated to them. This is a worker protection bill that will ensure fairness and clear communication between warehouse employees and their employers,” said Leader Ciccone (D-Dist. 7, Providence, Johnston).
The bill (2025-S 1058) would require employers to provide each employee, defined as a nonexempt employee who works at a warehouse distribution center, upon hire, with a written description of each quota to which the employee is subject, including the quantified number of tasks to be performed or materials to be produced or handled, within the defined time period. Also, any potential adverse employment action that could result from failure to meet the quota should also be clearly stated.
The legislation now heads to the House for consideration, where Rep. Evan P. Shanley (D-Dist. 24, Warwick, East Greenwich) has introduced the legislation (2025-H 5047).
