5/29/2025 House OKs Serpa bill to require Retirement Board to publish recordings of meetings online
STATE HOUSE — The House of Representatives today approved legislation introduced by Rep. Patricia A. Serpa (D-Dist. 27, West Warwick, Coventry) that would require the Retirement Board of the Employees Retirement System to publish recordings of its meetings.

The bill (2025-H 5715A) would require the board to publish online all archived video or audio recordings and all future recordings of meetings of the board.

“Transparency has long been a priority of the General Assembly,” said Representative Serpa, who serves as chairwoman of the House Oversight Committee. “While the meetings have been streamed live, it’s only recently that the Retirement Board has begun posting archival footage of its meetings. With everything that retired state employees have had to endure over the past several years, they not only deserve for the actions of the board to be open, but easily accessible. This will make that openness and accessibility obligatory under state law.”

The measure now moves to the Senate, which has passed similar legislation (2025-S 0514A) introduced by Sen. John Burke (D-Dist. 9 West Warwick).
