5/27/2025 Media Advisory: House Environment Committee to meet Thursday
STATE HOUSE — The House Environment and Natural Resources Committee will meet Thursday to vote on bills relating to per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in firefighter gear and the remediation of arsenic.

The committee is scheduled to meet Thursday, May 29, at the rise of the House, sometime after 4:30 p.m. in Room 101 on the first floor of the State House. The committee is scheduled to vote on the following bills:
  • 2025-S 0241 — This bill introduced by Sen. Walter S. Felag Jr. (D-Dist. 10, Warren, Bristol, Tiverton) would prohibit a manufacturer from manufacturing, knowingly selling, offering for sale, distributing for sale or distributing for use in the state any firefighting personal protective equipment containing intentionally-added PFAS as of January 1, 2027.
  • 2025-H 6208 — This bill introduced by Rep. Terri Cortvriend (D-Dist. 72, Portsmouth, Middletown) would strike the words “which is naturally occurring” with regard to any promulgated rules and regulations of the Department of Environmental Management relating to the remediation of arsenic.
The committee is also scheduled to hear one bill:
  • 2025-H 6157 — This bill introduced by Rep. Kathleen A. Fogarty (D-Dist. 35, South Kingstown) would create a new commercial fishing license for invasive green crabs for Rhode Island residents for $25 annually.
Written testimony must be submitted at HouseEnvironmentandNaturalResources@rilegislature.gov. Testimony must include your name, the bill number and your viewpoint, whether for, against or neither. Sign-up sheets for in-person testimony will be available in the hearing room.
