MEDIA ADVISORY: House Judiciary Committee meets tomorrow to consider three bills
|
STATE HOUSE – The House Judiciary Committee will meet tomorrow to consider three pieces of legislation.
On Tuesday, May 13, at the Rise of the House (approximately 5 p.m.) in Room 101 of the State House, the committee will consider the following bills:

2025-H 5130A, sponsored by Rep. Jennifer Boylan (D-Dist. 66, Barrington, East Providence), defines “crime gun” and requires law enforcement to submit a seized crime gun, or 2 fired cartridge cases or shell casings, to the state crime laboratory or the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives for testing and tracing. It also would require 2 test-fired cartridge cases to be entered into National Integrated Ballistic Information Network.

2025-H 5645, sponsored by Rep. Matthew S. Dawson (D-Dist. 65, East Providence), exempts qualified tuition savings programs of any state from judicial attachment.

2025-H 6159, sponsored by Rep. Robert E. Craven (D-Dist. 32, North Kingstown), increases the per page transcription fees for court reporters in court proceedings.
The committee will also hear testimony on legislation (2025-H 6286) sponsored by Rep. Jason Knight (D-Dist. 67, Barrington, Warren), that provides that law enforcement officers who appear before the court for prosecution of a violation of a protective order shall self-certify that the officer has successfully completed a specialized domestic violence prosecution training course.
