MEDIA ADVISORY: Special Senate commission to study renewable energy to convene inaugural meeting Tuesday
|
STATE HOUSE — A special Senate Commission to study renewable energy will have its inaugural meeting Tuesday afternoon.
The Special Legislative Commission to Study Renewable Energy Programs will meet Tuesday, May 6, at 2 p.m. in Room 313 on the third floor of the State House.
The commission was established by a Senate resolution (2024-S 3146) introduced by Sen. V. Susan Sosnowski (D-Dist. 37, South Kingstown) last year.
The panel is tasked with making a comprehensive study of Rhode Island’s renewable energy programs and the impacts to ratepayers, which includes identifying the future needs for renewable energy in Rhode Island’s residential and commercial sectors, including, but not limited to, system sizes, energy production and energy demand; and providing recommendations to improve the cost-effectiveness and overall cost of the renewable energy programs while preserving the economic, environmental and health benefits that renewable energy provides to the state.
In addition to Senator Sosnowski, Senate President Valarie J. Lawson (D-Dist. 14, East Providence) has appointed Senators Robert Britto (D-Dist. 18, East Providence, Pawtucket), John Burke (D-Dist. 9 West Warwick) and Alana DiMario (D-Dist. 36, North Kingstown, Narragansett, New Shoreham) to serve on the commission. They will be joined by Linda George of the Division of Public Utilities and Carriers, Terry Gray from the Department of Environmental Management, Nicholas Ucci from Rhode Island Energy and Karen Bradbury from the Office of Energy Resources.
The meeting will be livestreamed at https://capitoltvri.cablecast.tv.
