Housing Affordability, Land Use commissions to meet with Pew Charitable Trusts housing policy researcher
|
STATE HOUSE – The legislative commissions studying housing affordability and land use will meet jointly Thursday to hear from the director of the Housing Policy Initiative at the Pew Charitable Trust about Rhode Island’s housing shortage and the outcome of housing policy changes elsewhere.
The meeting is scheduled Thursday, May 8, at 1 p.m., in the House chamber on the second floor of the State House.
Alex Horowitz guides research for Pew’s housing policy initiative, focusing on how home financing, the housing shortage, and land-use regulations affect household well-being. He has also conducted extensive research on consumer finance issues, including how small-dollar loans and consumer banking can be made safer and more transparent. Horowitz manages research and policy analysis covering all these issues. He studies how to improve access to small mortgages and how to make alternative financial arrangements used to purchase housing safer. Horowitz also researches the way in which restrictive zoning drives up rents and homelessness.
No public testimony will be accepted at this meeting.
The meeting will be televised on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox channel 61, on i3Broadband channel 15 and on Verizon channel 34. It will be live streamed at capitoltvri.cablecast.tv.
