MEDIA ADVISORY: House Finance Committee meets on Wednesday and Thursday to hear legislation
|
STATE HOUSE – The House Finance Committee will be meeting twice this week to hear testimony on a variety of legislation.
On Wednesday, April 9, at 4 p.m. in Room 35 of the State House the committee will hear testimony on several pieces of legislation.
Among the legislation scheduled to be heard are the following bills:

2025-H 5053, sponsored by Rep. Samuel A. Azzinaro (D-Dist. 37, Westerly), raises the amount of life insurance the state provides at no charge to Rhode Island National Guard members called up for federal duty to $500,000.

2025-H 5394, sponsored by Rep. Deborah A. Fellela (D-Dist. 43, Johnston), provides that when a registrant voluntarily cancels the registrant's motor vehicle registration, that person would receive a partial refund of the fee that had been paid.

2025-H 6001, sponsored by Rep. Carol Hagan McEntee (D-Dist. 33, South Kingstown, Narragansett), redirects the distribution of hotel tax money to the Rhode Island Commerce Corporation.

2025-H 6004, sponsored by Rep. Terri Cortvriend (D-Dist. 72, Portsmouth, Middletown), provides that the General Assembly make an annual appropriation of not less than $80,000 to the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency to assist with emergency communications during major or multiple emergency incidents.
On Thursday, April 10, at the RISE of the House (approximately 5 p.m.) in Room 35 of the State House, the committee will hear testimony on a variety of legislation.
Among the legislation scheduled to be heard are the following bills:

2025-H 5464, sponsored by Rep. Teresa A. Tanzi (D-Dist. 34, South Kingstown, Narragansett), repeals the exemption granted to pari-mutuel facilities and casinos from the smoke free workplace requirement and provides for a one-time appropriation of $1 million to inform patrons of the smoke free policy within the casino.

2025-H 5767, sponsored by Rep. Joseph J. Solomon Jr. (D-Dist. 22, Warwick), removes the definition of “totally and permanently disabled” from the General Law affording college tuition paid by the state to the spouse and children of active members of the police force who are killed or disabled during duty.

2025-H 5785, sponsored by Representative Solomon, creates a sales tax holiday on August 9 and 10, 2025.

2025-H 5787, sponsored by Rep. Marie Hopkins (R-Dist. 21, Warwick), exempts from the sales tax eligible school supplies, costing less than $30, purchased within one week prior to the commencement of the academic year.

2025-H 6014, sponsored by Rep. Richard R. Fascia (R-Dist. 42, Johnston, Cranston), exempts from the sales tax firearm safety equipment, storage devices, gun safes, gun cabinets, gun vaults, gun cases, strong boxes, cable locks, trigger locks and biometric locks.
