Media Advisory: Senate AI and Emerging Technologies Committee to hear bills Monday
|
STATE HOUSE — The Senate Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies Committee will meet Monday to hear bills related to high-risk AI systems, the usage of AI by health insurers and a commission to study cryptocurrency and blockchain technologies.
The committee is scheduled to meet Monday, April 7, at 4 p.m. in Room 313 on the third floor of the State House to hear several bills, including:

2025-S 0627 — This legislation introduced by Sen. Louis P. DiPalma (D-Dist. 12, Middletown, Little Compton, Newport, Tiverton) would establish regulations to ensure the ethical development, integration and deployment of high-risk AI systems, particularly those influencing consequential decisions.

2025-S 0013 — This legislation sponsored by Sen. Linda L. Ujifusa (D-Dist. 11, Portsmouth, Bristol) would promote transparency and accountability in the use of artificial intelligence by health insurers to manage coverage and claims.

2025-S 0373 — Also sponsored by Senator DiPalma, this bill would create a five-member commission to recommend legislative proposals for blockchain and cryptocurrency that would submit an interim progress report by January 5, 2026 and a final report by January 5, 2027.

The Senate Committee on Artificial Intelligence and Emerging Technologies considers legislation and matters relating to emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence, and their societal, ethical and policy implications. The committee is chaired by Sen. Victoria Gu (D-Dist. 38, Westerly, Charlestown, South Kingstown).
