Media Advisory: Senate Education Committee to hear several bills
|
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Education Committee will meet Wednesday for hearings on several bills.
The meeting is scheduled Wednesday, March 26, at 4 p.m. in Room 313 on the third floor of the State House. Among the bills scheduled for hearings are:

2025-S 0240— Sponsored by Sen. Lammis J. Vargas (D-Dist. 28, Cranston, Providence), this bill would create the Rhode Island Childcare Assistance Program governing both family eligibility for the state’s child care subsidy program and the rates paid to child care providers serving families receiving a subsidy. The act would expand eligibility for the program to meet the federal eligibility benchmark so that families with incomes at or below 85% of the state median income would be eligible for assistance.

2025-S 0771 — Sponsored by Sen. Melissa Murray (D-Dist. 24, Woonsocket, North Smithfield), this bill would require every public school to have a policy regarding the use of personal electronic devices on school grounds that prohibits access to the phone during the school day.

2025-S 0773 — Sponsored by Sen. Jonathon Acosta (D-Dist. 16, Central Falls, Pawtucket), this bill would require that the school year for all public schools, including traditional public and public charter schools, independent charter schools, and mayoral academies, start on the same date of each calendar year.
