Media Advisory: Housing bills to be heard
|
STATE HOUSE – Several bills concerning building codes and lead hazard safety compliance will come before the Senate Committee on Housing and Municipal Government for hearings when it meets Thursday.
The committee is scheduled to meet Thursday, March 27, at the rise of the Senate session (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in Room 212 on the second floor of the State House.
Among the bills scheduled for hearings are:

2025-S 0714 — The Home-Fit Dwellings Units Act, sponsored by Senate Housing and Municipal Government Chairman Jacob E. Bissaillon (D-Dist. 1, Providence), would require new construction of covered dwelling units to incorporate design features that provide safe and convenient use of to the greatest extent feasible, regardless of age or physical ability.

2025-S 0491 — This bill sponsored by Sen. Frank A. Ciccone (D-Dist. 7, Providence, North Providence) would make the Department of Health responsible for enforcement of the Lead Hazard Safety Act and make it easier for a property owner to release funds put into an escrow account if needed to make required repairs or improvements.

2025-S 0492 — Sponsored by Sen. Lammis J. Vargas (D-Dist. 28, Cranston, Providence), this bill would allow municipalities to enact ordinances to permit them and water suppliers to enter properties to perform lead service line replacements, and permit tenants to request and schedule private side lead service line replacements.
The meeting will be televised by Capitol Television on channels 15 and 61 for high definition on Cox Communications, channel 15 on i3Broadband (Formerly Full Channel) and channel 34 for Verizon viewers. Anyone wishing to submit written testimony must email it to SLegislation@rilegislature.gov by 3 p.m. Thursday in order for it to be provided to the members of the committee at the hearing and to be included in the meeting records.
