3/24/2025 MEDIA ADVISORY: Senate Environment and Agriculture Committee to hear legislation related to coastal resources
STATE HOUSE — The Senate Committee on Environment and Agriculture is scheduled to meet Wednesday to hear testimony on legislation related to coastal resources.

 The meeting will take place Wednesday, March 26, at 4 p.m. in the Senate Lounge on the second floor of the State House.

The committee will hear testimony on the following bills:

§  2025-S 0181 — this bill, by Sen. V. Susan Sosnowski (D-Dist. 37, South Kingstown), would require that a super majority of three-fifths of the duly appointed council is required to override a recommendation by the CRMC staff.
§  2025-S 0775 — this bill, by Sen. Mark McKenney (D-Dist. 30, Warwick), would replace the Coastal Resources Management Council with a state Department of Coastal Resources and transfer all of the powers and duties between the two authorities.
§  2025-S 0642 — this bill, by Senator McKenney, would establish a uniform wastewater disposal fee in the amount of 15 cents per every 10,000 gallons of wastewater effluent.
§  2025-S 0643 — this bill, by Senator McKenney, would create a shellfish hatchery program established by the Department of Environmental Management to foster sustainable development and resiliency of the state’s shellfish industry.
§  2025-S 0644 — this bill, by Sen. Louis P. DiPalma (D-Dist. 12, Middletown, Newport, Tiverton, Little Compton), would strike the words “which is naturally occurring” with regard to any promulgated rules and regulations of the Department of Environmental Management relating to the remediation of arsenic.
