Media Advisory: Housing bills to be heard
|
STATE HOUSE – Several housing bills will come before the Senate Committee on Housing and Municipal Government for hearings when it meets Thursday.
The committee is scheduled to meet Thursday, March 20, at the rise of the Senate session (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in Room 212 on the second floor of the State House.
Among the bills scheduled for hearings are:

2025-S 0122 — This bill sponsored by Sen. Meghan E. Kallman (D-Dist. 15, Pawtucket, Providence) would establish a housing land bank program with the authority to buy, receive and hold property for affordable housing creation.

2025-S 0495 — This bill sponsored by Sen. Victoria Gu (D-Dist. 38, Westerly, Charlestown, South Kingstown) would establish a Rhode Island Housing Champion designation program to make qualified municipalities eligible to receive preferential access to state resources, including discretionary state infrastructure funds, as available.

2025-S 0501 —Sponsored by Housing and Municipal Government Committee Chairman Jacob E. Bissaillon (D-Dist. 1, Providence), this bill authorizes municipalities to make an emergency declaration under limited circumstances on a temporary basis to allow for the construction and use of SAVE units, which have specialized requirements and exemptions from the state fire and building codes.
The meeting will be televised by Capitol Television on channels 15 and 61 for high definition on Cox Communications, channel 15 on i3Broadband (Formerly Full Channel) and channel 34 for Verizon viewers. Anyone wishing to submit written testimony must email it to SLegislation@rilegislature.gov by 3 p.m. Thursday in order for it to be provided to the members of the committee at the hearing and to be included in the meeting records.
