Sen. LaMountain named grand marshal of St. Patrick’s Day Parade in Pawtuxet Valley
|
STATE HOUSE — The Friendly Sons of St. Patrick of the Pawtuxet Valley has named Sen. Matthew L. LaMountain (D-Dist. 31, Warwick, Cranston) grand marshal for its 64th annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade, which takes place Sunday, March 16, on Washington and Main streets in West Warwick.
The organization held a banquet at Club Jogues in Coventry last Saturday to officially welcome the senator to the top of a long list of past parade leaders.
“To be chosen as grand marshal — to lead this celebration of Irish heritage, history and culture — is a distinction that I will carry with immense pride, not only today but for the rest of my life,” said Senator LaMountain.
The parade will kick off at 1 p.m. from the Iannotti Funeral Home, 415 Washington St., on the Coventry/West Warwick town line, and will end at West Warwick Town Hall. The Friendly Sons of Saint Patrick post-parade party will be held at the Elks Lodge, 60 Clyde St., West Warwick, with plenty of corned beef sandwiches, hot dogs, hamburgers and fries to go around. Trophies will be awarded for parade categories and donations will be accepted at the door.
