Media Advisory: House Environment Committee to meet Wednesday
|
STATE HOUSE — The House Environment and Natural Resources Committee will meet Wednesday to vote on bills to educate the public about recycling textiles and to modify a commission studying the impacts of climate change. It will also hear bills relating to building decarbonization and high heat waste facilities.
The committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday, March 12, at 4 p.m. in Room 101 on the first floor of the State House. The committee is scheduled to vote on two bills:

2025-H 5293 — This bill introduced by Deputy Speaker Raymond A. Hull (D-Dist. 6, Providence, North Providence) would create a public education program on textile recycling.

2025-H 5344 — This bill introduced by Rep. Terri Cortvriend (D-Dist. 72, Portsmouth, Middletown) would extend the reporting and expiration dates of the special house commission on climate change from May 14, 2025, to May 14, 2026, and increase its membership from 17 to 18.
The committee will also hear several bills, including:

2025-H 5493 — The Building Decarbonization Act of 2025 introduced by Rep. Rebecca Kislak (D-Dist. 4, Providence) would establish a program for the energy and water benchmarking of large buildings in Rhode Island and set a standard for their energy performance.

2025-H 5166 — This bill introduced by Rep. Michelle McGaw (D-Dist. 71, Portsmouth, Tiverton, Little Compton) would prohibit the licensing of any new high-heat waste facilities in Rhode Island.
