MEDIA ADVISORY: Senate Environment and Agriculture Committee to hear update on DEM activities and initiatives

STATE HOUSE — The Senate Committee on Environment and Agriculture is scheduled to meet Wednesday to hear an update from the Department of Environmental Management on the agency’s activities and initiatives.
The meeting will take place Wednesday, March 11, at 4 p.m. in the Senate Lounge on the second floor of the State House.
The committee will hear a presentation by DEM Director Terry Gray, which will include an organizational overview, an update on environmental protection and natural resources initiatives, and an update on the implementation of the Act on Climate.
The panel is also scheduled to hear testimony on the appointment of Dr. Michael Reuter to the Coastal Resources Management Council, and Andrew T. Tyska to the Derelict and Abandoned Vessel and Obstructed Removal Commission. Both appointments require the advice and consent of the Senate.
The committee will also hear testimony on the following bills:

(2025-S 0087) — this bill, by Committee Chairwoman V. Susan Sosnowski (D-Dist. 37, South Kingstown), would create commercial dock space for businesses subject to being reviewed by the DEM. It would also include commercial fishers in the list of people eligible for a grant program.

(2025-S 0326) — this bill, by Sen. Linda L. Ujifusa (D-Dist. 11, Portsmouth, Bristol), would establish the Rhode Island Climate Superfund Act cost recovery program.

(2025-S 0401) — this bill, by Senate Minority Whip Gordon E. Rogers (R-Dist. 21, Foster, Scituate, Coventry, West Greenwich), would require the Department of Transportation, in consultation with the Department of Environmental Management to conduct an environmental impact study of motor vehicle non-exhaust particle emissions.
