Media Advisory: Senate Education Committee to hear athlete-safety bills
|
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Education Committee will meet Wednesday for hearings on several bills concerning the safety of student-athletes.
The meeting is scheduled Wednesday, Feb. 26, at 4 p.m. in Room 313 on the third floor of the State House. The following bills are scheduled for hearings:

2025-S 0236 — Sponsored by Sen. Matthew L. LaMountain (D-Dist. 31, Warwick, Cranston), this bill would mandate soft-shell helmet covers for students participating in Rhode Island Interscholastic League football.

2025-S 0319, 2025-S 0320 — Both sponsored by Sen. Walter S. Felag Jr. (D-Dist. 10, Warren, Bristol, Tiverton), these bills respectively require school districts to develop concussion oversight teams, protocols and a concussion brochure; and designate a certified athletic trainer at each high school.

2025-S 0321 — Also sponsored by Senator Felag, this bill would require that every licensed athletic trainer be trained and equipped with an epinephrine auto-injector while on the job.
The meeting will be televised by Capitol Television on Cox channels 15 and 61 for high definition; i3Broadband (Formerly Full Channel) channel 15; and Verizon channel 34.
