12/20/2024 Rep. O’Brien agrees with Speaker; Treasurer already has resources to protect against cyberattack
STATE HOUSE – Rep. William W. O’Brien is agreeing with House Speaker K. Joseph Shekarchi (D-Dist. 23, Warwick) that the General Treasurer’s office already has the necessary resources to protect the state against a potential cyberattack.

"As a member of the House Finance Committee, I echo Speaker Shekarchi’s statement that the General Assembly has already allocated significant amounts of taxpayer dollars for staffing needs and how the General Treasurer chooses to use these funds is his prerogative.  The state is already dealing with a critical cyberattack and we don’t need another one.  Now is not the time for finger-pointing and I encourage the General Treasurer to prioritize the security of his IT system with his office funds that are readily available,” said Representative O’Brien (D-Dist. 54, North Providence).
