Rep. O’Brien to introduce bill mandating anti-shooting technology in RI schools
|
STATE HOUSE – Once the new legislative session begins in January, Rep. William W. O’Brien will be introducing legislation to install panic alarm systems in Rhode Island schools in hopes of preventing or minimizing the damage of mass shooting incidents.
The technology is supplied by Centegix and offers a crisis alert system with safety blueprints for schools utilizing extensive real-time digital mapping and wearable panic buttons for teachers and staff that immediately alert law enforcement and resource officers if a threat arises in the school.
“This technology was recently put in place in Georgia schools and I believe its utilization by the school probably saved many lives during the unspeakable tragedy that occurred last week. The more I read about this safety system, the more I became convinced that it would protect our students and staff if the unthinkable were to occur in our schools and I will be advocating for this life-saving technology’s adoption once the new legislative session commences,” said Representative O’Brien (D-Dist. 54, North Providence).
