4/10/2024 Sponsors, advocates to call for passage of bills protecting libraries’ freedom
STATE HOUSE – Rep. David Morales, Rep. Jennifer A. Stewart and Sen. Mark P. McKenney will join the Rhode Island Library Association and the Rhode Island State Council of Churches at a State House event tomorrow calling for the passage of legislation to protect public libraries from partisan or doctrinal book-banning efforts.

The event is scheduled tomorrow, Thursday, April 11, at 3 p.m. in the State Library on the second floor of the State House. Those scheduled to speak include:
  • Senator McKenney (D-Dist. 30, Warwick), sponsor of 2024-S 2429 and 2024-S 2281
  • Representative Morales (D-Dist. 7, Providence), sponsor of 2024-H 7575
  • Representative Stewart (D-Dist. 59, Pawtucket), sponsor of 2024-H 7386
  • Rhode Island Library Association President Beatrice Pulliam
  • Rhode Island Council of Churches Commissioner Rev. Darren Collins
  • Community Libraries of Providence Library Director Cheryl Space
  • Margaret Paccione-Dyszlewski, Clinical Assistant Professor (Psychiatry and Human Behavior) at the Warren Alpert Medical School, Brown University.
