4/1/2024 Media Advisory: House Labor Committee to hear bills on public employee contracts

STATE HOUSE – The House Labor Committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday for hearings on several bills concerning public employee contracts and other issues.

The committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday, April 3, at 4 p.m. in the House Lounge on the second floor of the State House.

Among the bills scheduled for hearings are:
  • 2024-H 7201 and 2024-H 7202 — Sponsored by Rep. David A. Bennett (D-Dist. 20, Warwick, Cranston), these bills extend provisions of an existing collective bargaining agreement for arbitration purposes until a successor agreement is reached or an interest arbitration award is rendered for municipal police and firefighters, respectively.
  • 2024-H 7459 — This bill sponsored by Rep. Camille F.J. Vella-Wilkinson (D-Dist. 21, Warwick) requires that if state employee unions are engaged in contract negotiations and/or utilizing the dispute resolution process, all terms and conditions in the collective bargaining agreement shall continue to remain in effect.
  • 2024-H 7581 — Sponsored by House Labor Committee Chairman Arthur J. Corvese (D-Dist. 55, North Providence), this bill establishes parameters for staffing of correctional officers.
The meeting will be televised on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox channel 61, on i3Broadband channel 15 and on Verizon channel 34. It will be live streamed at capitoltvri.cablecast.tv.

Testimony will be accepted in person or in writing via email to HouseLabor@rilegislature.gov. Written testimony must include a name and any applicable organization, the bill number(s) and viewpoint (for/against/neither). It will be considered a public document.
