3/25/2024 Media Advisory: House Labor Committee to hear minimum wage bills
STATE HOUSE – The House Labor Committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday for hearings on numerous bills concerning minimum wages and other labor issues.

The committee is scheduled to meet Wednesday, March 27, at 4 p.m. in Room 101 on the first floor of the State House.

Among the bills scheduled for hearings are:
  • 2024-H 7172 — Sponsored by Rep. Enrique Sanchez (D-Dist. 9, Providence), this bill repeals the law that allowed employers to pay some of their minor employees and employees who are full-time students and younger than 19 less than minimum hourly wages.
  • 2024-H 7531 — Sponsored by Rep. Leonela Felix (D-Dist. 61, Pawtucket) would gradually increase the minimum wage for tipped employees from $3.89 an hour to meet the regular minimum wage by 2030.
  • 2024-H 7532 — Also sponsored by Representative Felix, this bill would include those employed in domestic service at private homes to be included as an employee, for purposes of minimum wages law.
  • 2024-H 7883 — Also sponsored by Representative Sanchez, this bill would prohibit weight discrimination at work.
The meeting will be televised on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox channel 61, on i3Broadband channel 15 and on Verizon channel 34. It will be live streamed at capitoltvri.cablecast.tv.

Testimony will be accepted in person or in writing via email to HouseLabor@rilegislature.gov. Written testimony must include a name and any applicable organization, the bill number(s) and viewpoint (for/against/neither). It will be considered a public document.
