3/11/2024 Rep. Casimiro secures $25,000 grant for RWP Zoo educational program
STATE HOUSE – Rep. Julie A. Casimiro and several other legislators delivered a $25,000 legislative grant on Wednesday, March 6, to the Roger Williams Park Zoo to fund discounted Zoomobile trips for first grade students in the state.

The Zoomobile provides unique education programs to increase access to science and conservation education resources for children in at-risk communities.  The Zoomobile visits schools with two educators and two animal ambassadors and the educational programs have been developed in consultation with science educators from urban schools and after school programs to create and provide experiences that advance scientific literacy and create emotional connections to wildlife and the environment.

“The Zoomobile program is a tremendous asset to our state and its visits to schools that may not have the resources for field trips to the zoo are true bright spots for the students and educators.  Every young child should have the opportunity to experience and interact with the beautiful animals of the zoo and the Zoomobile makes that possible for countless children in Rhode Island,” said Representative Casimiro (D-Dist. 31, North Kingstown, Exeter).

In addition to Representative Casimiro, the grant was cosponsored by Reps. Jacquelyn Baginski (D-Dist. 17, Cranston), Jose F. Batista (D-Dist. 12, Providence), Nathan W. Biah (D-Dist. 3, Providence), David A. Bennett (D-Dist. 20, Warwick, Cranston), Justine A. Caldwell (D-Dist. 30, East Greenwich, West Greenwich), Stephen M. Casey (D-Dist. 50, Woonsocket), Megan L.
