3/4/2024 Media Advisory: House Labor Committee to hear workers’ bills
STATE HOUSE – The House Labor Committee is scheduled to meet tomorrow for hearings on numerous bills concerning works.

The committee is scheduled to meet tomorrow, Tuesday, March 5, at the rise of the House session (sometime after 4:30 p.m.) in Room 135 on the first floor of the State House.

Among the bills scheduled for hearings are:
  • 2024-H 7457 — Sponsored by Rep. Enrique Sanchez (D-Dist. 9, Providence), this bill would eliminate all exceptions to the provision that all employees are to be paid weekly except for employees of the state and its political subdivisions, municipal governments, and nonprofit organizations with less than 25 employees.
  • 2024-H 7319 — This bill sponsored by Rep. Karen Alzate (D-Dist. 60, Pawtucket, Central Falls) would mandate that the standard work week be reduced to 32 hours and rate of pay for a 32-hour workweek would remain the same as the rate of pay for 40 hours.
  • 2024-H 7789 — Also sponsored by Representative Sanchez, this bill would require that all health care workers who are employed on any Sunday or holiday be compensated at the rate of time and one-half.
The meeting will be televised on Capitol Television, which can be seen on Cox channel 61, on i3Broadband channel 15 and on Verizon channel 34. It will be live streamed at capitoltvri.cablecast.tv.

Testimony will be accepted in person or in writing via email to HouseLabor@rilegislature.gov. Written testimony must include a name and any applicable organization, the bill number(s) and viewpoint (for/against/neither). It will be considered a public document.
