Media Advisory: Senate Environment Committee to hear bills, energy resources update Wednesday
|
STATE HOUSE – The Senate Environment and Agriculture Committee will meet Wednesday to hear a report from the Office of Energy Resources and to hear several bills on solar and renewable energy.
The Senate Environment and Agriculture Committee is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, March 6, at 5 p.m. in the Senate Lounge on the second floor of the State House to hear an update from the Office of Energy Resources on current programs and activities and to hear several bills, including:

2024-S 2293 — This bill, introduced by Senate Environment Chairwoman Alana M. DiMario (D-Dist. 36, Narragansett, North Kingstown, New Shoreham), would establish the renewable ready program to promote the responsible siting of renewable energy resources, with a particular emphasis on redevelopment of previously contaminated properties.

2024-S 2536 — This bill, introduced by Sen. Bridget G. Valverde (D-Dist. 35, North Kingstown, East Greenwich, South Kingstown), would require credits be paid back to eligible net-metering systems if the electricity generated by an eligible net-metering system is greater than the usage at the net-metering system site.

2024-S 2151 — This bill, also introduced by Chairwoman DiMario, would provide a consistent definition “core forest” as an unfragmented forest block totaling 25 acres or greater unbroken by development and at least 25 yards from mapped roads, instead of 25 acres from mapped roads.
Written testimony must be submitted to the committee clerk at slegislation@rilegislature.gov prior to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, in order for it to be provided to the members of the committee at the hearing and to be included in the meeting records. Sign-up sheets for in-person testimony will be available in the hearing room.
