3/4/2024 MEDIA ADVISORY: House Judiciary Committee meets on Tuesday to hear several bills
STATE HOUSE – The House Judiciary Committee will be meeting Tuesday, March 5 at the RISE of the House (approximately 4:45 p.m.) in the House Lounge of the State House to hear testimony on several bills.

Among the legislation being heard by the committee are the following bills:
  • 2024-H 7103, sponsored by Rep. Mary Ann Shallcross Smith (D-Dist. 46, Lincoln, Pawtucket), prohibits credit reporting, executions, and attachments against a principal residence for judgments based on medical debt. Defines medical debt as an amount for the receipt of health care services, products, or devices.
  • 2024-H 7451, sponsored by Rep. Joseph J. Solomon (D-Dist. 22, Warwick), establishes a program within the Adult Correctional Institution to permit medication assisted treatment approved by the FDA to be provided for the treatment of opioid use disorder to any incarcerated individual.
  • 2024-H 7577, sponsored by Rep. John G. Edwards (D-Dist. 70, Tiverton), enacts the Health Care Provider Shield Bill that precludes any individual from interfering with another's access to transgender health care services and reproductive health care services.
  • 2024-H 7632, sponsored by Rep. Barbara Ann Fenton-Fung (R-Dist. 15, Cranston), permits assaulted health care employees to have the option of having home address, place of employment, voter roll information and any information related to any labor organization, impounded from public records.
  • 2024-H 7643, sponsored by Rep. Thomas E. Noret (D-Dist. 25, Coventry, West Warwick), requires the director of BHDDH to establish and maintain a registry of employees found to be in violation of and disciplined for any felony offense or misdemeanor crime of dishonesty or an offense involving the use of illegal substances.
