MEDIA ADVISORY: House Judiciary Committee meets on Tuesday to hear several bills
|
STATE HOUSE – The House Judiciary Committee will be meeting Tuesday, Feb. 27 at the RISE of the House (approximately 4:45 p.m.) in the House Lounge of the State House to hear testimony on several bills.
Among the legislation being heard by the committee are the following bills:

2024-H 7216, sponsored by Rep. Jennifer Boylan (D-Dist. 66, Barrington, East Providence), defines "crime gun" and requires law enforcement to submit crime gun or 2 fired cartridge cases seized to state crime laboratory or the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms for testing and tracing and also requires 2 test-fired cartridge cases to be entered into the National Integrated Ballistic Information Network.

2024-H 7303, sponsored by Rep. Thomas E. Noret (D-Dist. 25, Coventry, West Warwick), defines "public official" to include school personnel for purposes of the criminal prohibition against making threats to public officials.

2024-H 7308, sponsored by Rep. William W. O’Brien (D-Dist. 54, North Providence), mandates arming campus police at public higher educational institutions and includes campus police in the definition of "law enforcement officer" for the purposes of the "Law Enforcement Officers' Bill of Rights."

2024-H 7450, sponsored by House Minority Whip David J. Place (R-Dist. 47, Burrillville, Glocester), requires law enforcement to obtain consent before placing audio or video recorders on the private property of another.
