2/5/2024 MEDIA ADVISORY: House Judiciary Committee meets on Thursday to hear LEOBOR and other police reform bills
STATE HOUSE – The House Judiciary Committee will be meeting on Thursday, February 8 at the Rise of the House (approximately 4:45 p.m.) in the House Lounge of the State House to hear testimony on several bills relating to the Law Enforcement Officers’ Bill of Rights and other pieces of legislation relating to law enforcement reform.

The following bills will be heard by the committee:
  • 2024-H 7263, sponsored by Deputy Speaker Raymond A. Hull (D-Dist. 6, Providence, North Providence), creates the Law Enforcement Officers’ Due Process Accountability and Transparency Act.
  • 2024-H 7099, sponsored by Rep. Edith H. Ajello (D-Dist. 1, Providence), amends the Comprehensive Community-Police Relationship Act of 2015 to require an annual study by an outside agency.
  • 2024-H 7198, sponsored by Rep. Jennifer A. Stewart (D-Dist. 59, Pawtucket), repeals the Law Enforcement Officers' Bill of Rights, chapter 42-28.6 of the general laws, in its entirety.
  • 2024-H 7310, sponsored by Rep. Jose F. Batista (D-Dist. 12, Providence), mandates a police officer to disclose the reason for a traffic or pedestrian stop.
  • 2024-H 7312, also sponsored by Representative Batista, expands the authority of the Police Officers Commission on Standards and Training.
  • 2024-H 7313, also sponsored by Representative Batista, amends the Law Enforcement Officers' Bill of Rights by providing greater accountability in the disciplinary process.
